Ghosts on a G6- Basic Physics Mashup (deadmau5 and Far East Movement)

worn: to school, 12 Nov 2010

> This is how so many of my outfits seem to come together: I can’t find something I want to wear, so I wear something similar instead. I wanted to wear black tights, black tailored shorts, the black sweater, bomber jacket and flats for a fun textured all black look. Unfortunately my closet is a total mess right now and I could find only denim shorts and thigh high socks in the the 5 minutes I had to get dressed and ready for school. So that’s what I wore. I actually think it turned out better than the original outfit I’d had planned—I’m always looking to re-wear pieces that I haven’t in a while and I hadn’t worn these shorts since the summer. And as for the intense music…I am sooo not a morning person, I always need to listen to stuff like this on my way to school to pump me up for my first class (and for the record this mash up is much better than the painfully monotonous original version of Like a G6). And I totally had to wear my wool pea coat over this…it’s not that warm in Vancouver these days!

Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit- Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother

worn: 13 October for International Suit Up Day 2010

black mini skirt

blue striped button up

black blazer (borrowed from my roommate)

black flats

rayban wayfarers

> If you hadn’t already heard, October 13th is International Suit Up Day, in honor of Barney Stinson, a character on the fabulous sitcom How I Met You Mother whose catch phrase is “Suit up!” So I suited up. I’m all for fun dress up days that retain style and class, and let’s face it, what’s more classy than a suit? Legen…wait for it…dary.

Le Femme d’Argent- Air

worn: 21 Sept 2010

grey sweater

flouro nylon tricot skirt

blue striped button up

black flats

> I love fall! This skirt is definitely too bright to be of much use in the grey rainy Vancouver winter so I figured I’d try and milk it in these gorgeous fleeting days of autumn sunlight. Pairing it with a fairly neutral and very academic sweater/button up combo made it suitable for school, but it was still a really fun outfit.

Shorts + Tights

A little while ago, one of my good friends (http://jsallo.tumblr.com) asked me my opinion on shorts plus tights. So here’s my take on the trend of shorts plus tights. I think one my my babysitters in the early 90s wore them…I was quite young, but if I recall correctly, she wore tweed or olive green shorts with opaque white tights (yes, some of my earliest memories are of outfits—both my own and others. That’s true passion right there.)

Now, I’ve taken some climate/physical geography courses, but you don’t need to have been to uni to know that in Vancouver it rains a lot. Though I’m originally from a very arid climate, I’ve adapted to the temperate rainforest climate that Vancouver enjoys and learnt a few tricks along the way. And one of my favorite secrets is tights. Since tights are so thin, they dry a lot faster than jeans or other pants do.

This combo just screams FALL! to me, so on top I wore what I think is a very classic autumn combo of a white t shirt, a black trench-style raincoat, and a scarf. And they are ordered in least hard to pull off to most hard to pull off (in my opinion).
